Puppies Behind Bars is a non-profit organization created 25 years ago to provide service dogs to veterans and first responders suffering from a physical injury or PTSD.

The Labrador Retriever puppies are raised in prison and trained by prisoners until they are ready to be placed. Two retired members of the PAPD have received dogs from this organization in the past.
